90's 03:09

Released on BBE Music’s new sister label Batakari, ‘90’s’ is the first single taken from Portuguese rapper Tekilla’s upcoming fourth studio album, ‘Olhos de Vidro’.

Produced by Fred Ferreira (Orelha Negra, Buraka Som Sistema, Banda do Mar), ‘90’s’ sees Tekilla reminisce about the decade in which hip-hop began to make noise in Portugal. As part of the first wave of MCs in the country, Tekilla was highly instrumental in building the scene, both as a solo artist and as part of super-group MadVision.

“I embarked on a journey, looking for the essence of the hip-hop that I grew up listening to, with nostalgic, aggressive, raw beats, stripping away the music of prejudices and manias, creating my own vision of the 90’s in 2021! In this track I pay tribute to all those who I grew with in this movement, to those who sowed their seeds before me, and even today keep doing it. For those who raise the bar at their art, keep pushing the boundaries, and provide the right music and the right messages for those who care. It is also my cry against all those who, over the years, have not yet realised that Art is not a 100m race, but a marathon. It is our legacy. It is what will remain. Integrity and truth are all that matters. 90’s was the first track I recorded for this new album, and it all starts here.” says Tekilla.

BBE London, UK

Sometime after the Universal Robot Band and sometime before where we are now, a pair of DJ/promoter/whatevers, Pete Adarkwah and Ben Jolly, ran a successful club night named after our eponymous song, playing a joyful mix of all they considered good. 'Wouldn't it be fun,' they mused, 'To release some of these tunes?' And so BBE (Barely Breaking Even) was born. ... more
